The noble idea of Silvergreetings was formed in my mind when I was a graduate student and, on a very short notice, invited to attend a birthday party of a friend’s son. While roaming from shop to shop, to find an appropriate gift for the occasion, I wound up in a Bank’s lobby with a showcase displaying gold and silver coins and medallions. A 1 oz. . 999 fine silver medallion with a beautiful design and a Happy Birthday sign drew my attention and a $10 price tag enticed me to purchase it on the spot. Coincidently, the shop few doors down had the engraving facility where I engraved the name on the medallion, did the gift packing, and bought the card, all for a few additional bucks.
Lo and Behold, I had the perfect birthday gift personalized with engraving, boxed and with birthday card and everything for under $15.00!
However, the real surprise came at the birthday party itself. When all the gift boxes were opened, my gift created lots of ah and oh’s.Although there were many gifts more expensive, mine came out with the perception of most precious, appropriate and expensive. I was pleased to see many happy and smiling faces, especially; the eight-year-old recipient was pleased to see Happy Birthday sign and his own name on the glittering real solid silver. In short, my gift stood out among all others and truly surprised and overwhelmed others and myself at the party.
While driving home, thoughts started pouring through my mind. This precious, yet inexpensive, Gift will last the lifetime of this kid and will be passed over to generations, most probably increasing in value and sentiments. It truly seemed like a win win situation.
